Interviews

An important objective of the project is to gather oral history interviews. To fulfill this objective some preparatory activities were first carried out, such as correspondence and telephone conversations with several institutions or persons in order to obtain contacts of former political detainees and their family members, in country and abroad. Subsequently there were correspondence and discussions on the telephone with those selected for the interviews in order to establish appointments. Research campaigns in the field were carried out in the country in the counties Alba, Arad, Bihor, Buzău, Cluj, Covasna, Galați, Harghita, Hunedoara, Iași, Maramureș, Mureș, Neamț, Prahova, Sibiu, Suceava, Vrancea and Bucharest, and abroad in Freiburg, Germany. 40 interviews resulted, from 43 persons.

The transcription of the interviews started already in 2015 and continued in 2016. In the present there are 11 interviews transcribed with a total of 208 pages and 7 interviews checked, with a total of 114 pages. 10 other persons were contacted and there were negotiations to interview them as well. The main information from the interviews was included in the interview database that had been started in 2015. This database is continuously updated as new interviews are taken, transcribed, checked and edited.
